Shiny students in slow motion
Clinging onto summer
Sandals and suntans
Unaware of the
Crisp confetti starting to drip slowly from the
Lime trees
Marking the first day of Autumn
Wide fields freshly ploughed
The rich brown earth turned towards the sky
Fertile, exposed
Newly sculpted by the huge silver blades
Of the long gone plough
Leaving the clods to await their winter ravagings
Unadulterated for now
Caressed by the gentle stillness
Splendid unearthly rays
Splayed upwards towards the golden sky
Lit up briefly after the grey day
Night falling like a blanket
The red flashing mast at Winter Hill
Familiar, comforting
Pulling in the world for miles around
Like a lady
Gathering her skirts
Before she settles down
For her replenishment
