You arrived like a bolt
After weeks of rain
And blurred, dark journeys
Heavy days sliding into night
Crossing dark hills on wet silver roads

Your cold sharp edges slightly shocking
A sunrise over a motorway
Somewhere near Wigan
A wide vista framed by pylons
Huge creatures blinking in the dazzling light

The crescent moon curved crisply in the pale sky
Her lips pursed upwards towards the frosty earth
And time itself slowed down
The moments beating slowly
Towards the turn of the year

What a wonderful poem. Completely captures the onset of winter, as well as the experience of driving to work on a chilly winter's morning in the north of England. Lovely
